In order to test the possibility to create a platform for sharing the layers and the spatial dataset produced during our research activity we set up a geographic forest information system available at
forestinfo.it is based on Lizmap, an open-source software designed by 3Liz, that allows to create Web map applications from QGIS® Desktop.
At the moment in forestinfo.it you can navigate in three layers.
- A growing stock volume spatial estimation created with a 23 x 23 resolution for those forests located in a large test area in Central Italy. This is the result of a test published by the International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation in “Wall-to-wall spatial prediction of growing stock volume based on Italian National Forest Inventory plots and remotely sensed data” by Chirici et al. in 2020 available here https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jag.2019.101959
- A mosaic of all Canopy Height Models resampled at 23 x 23 m resolution available in Italy from Airborne Laser Scanning recently published by iForest in: “Are we ready for a National Forest Information System?
